What do I do once I get / How do I use my message from dopeTONE?

Because dopeTONE is not affiliated with any cellular carriers or handset manufacturers, it is often very difficult for us to figure out the exact type of ringtone and delivery method to use with every single phone. We work VERY hard to make sure that our service works with as many phones as possible, but if you do have a problem we can likely work with you to solve it. The instructions below are intended to give you a general idea of how we send ringtones and how you can access them. Check -here- to see if we have specific instructions available for your phone. If you have figured out how to use our ringtones with a type of phone not listed, please email us and let us know how you have done it and we will add your instructions to the site.
For Sprint Subscribers:
Your ringtone will be sent to you as a URL inside of a regular SMS text message.

For Verizon Subscribers:
Your ringtone will be sent either as an MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) message or as a URL inside of a regular SMS text message.

For Cingular Subscribers:
Your ringtone will be sent either as an MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) message or as a URL inside of a regular SMS text message.

For MMS messages:
Your ringtone should begin playing as soon as you open the message. The message 'Options' menu should allow you to save the ringtone to your ringtones folder.

For SMS/URL messages:
The name of the game here is getting your phone's web browser to go to the URL that is contained inside the text message. Usually this can be done by selecting the 'Go' or 'Go URL' selection from the 'Options' menu when you are viewing the message. On some phones, this menu might be labeled 'Extract URL' or 'Use Details.' In an extreme case, you can write down the URL from the message and navigate to it by typing it into your phones browser manually.

Important:
You may see a message on your phone indicating that the content or file you are downloading from an unknown or untrusted provider. Disregard these messages and click 'Continue' or 'Ok.' These messages are due to the fact that we are not affiliated with any cellular carriers or handset manufacturers.

I don't know how long my ringtone should be, how long do ringtones usually last for?

Most phones will play a ringtone up to about 20-25 seconds long, if the ringtone is shorter the phone will loop the ringtone.

How do I request a feature or find out about new Dopetone updates?

Well you can email us at feedback@dopetone.com for any feature requests or questions. Also, to keep users up to date we have setup a news site with all our new Dopetone developments. You can post a comment on one of the entries for feature requests and questions.

Where do I get ridiculously in depth information on my phone?

We spent a lot of time building dopeTONE, a good portion of that time was spent learning about cell phones. So we have been slowly putting all that information into one convenient location which we call gnuMobile.com. There is a buncha useful cell phone tools there along with a gaint encyclopedia of knowledge about all the cellphones we can find.

Why does this website look like crap?

Upgrade your browser, Enable JavaScript, Download FlashPlayer

Why does my new ringtone sound like crap?

Well...that could be us or that could be your phone. We haven't been able to test all models of phones yet so we don't know what conversion is best each phone. If you want to lend us some of your time we can try and get you a better sounding ringtone. But the ringtone might also sound like crap because of what audio formats your phone supports. Old phone formats are low quality to save space on the phone, these formats require some fine tuning just to get the ringtone to sound decent.

How does this video-sharing/audio file URL thing work?

For video-sharing URLs:

Its pretty easy! Just point your browser over to your favorite video sharing site, copy the URL from the navigation bar using the 'Copy' option from the 'Edit' menu, and paste it into the entry box. URLs should be of the form: http://www.somesite.com/watch?v=fWaflDA2WtU

For audio file URLs:

Also easy! Just copy a web or anonymous ftp link for an audio file and paste it into the entry box. You can paste links for files of any type we support, including mp3, aac, m4a, ogg, flv, 3gp and many others. Just give it a try! URLs should be of the form: http://www.somesite.com/path/to/file/audiofile.mp3.
